Q: Who is eligible to participate in The Morris County Public Safety Youth Academy (MCPSYA)?
A: Any Morris County, NJ resident who will be entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2024 is eligible to apply for the program. If you have already graduated high school by the start of this program you are not eligible to apply.

Q: Will I have to pay for my son/daughter to attend this program?
A: This program is sponsored by the Morris County Board of Commissioners, and is completely free of charge.

Q: My son/daughter would have to miss a day or two, can they still attend the academy?
A: We will not be accepting any applicants who are unable to attend each day of the entire week (Monday-Friday). This includes absences for vacations, sports, or any other extracurricular activities.

Q: What time does the academy run each day?
A: The academy is in session from 8:30 AM - 4:30 PM daily. Start times will be strictly enforced.

Q: Will lunch be provided for my son/daughter?
A: Yes. Lunch will be provided daily, as well as water and Gatorade. If your child has any dietary restrictions, please include this information in your application, and you may send your son/daughter with their own lunch each day, if necessary. Vegetarian meals can be arranged by the academy.

Q: What will my son/daughter have to wear each day?
A: All MCPSYA cadets will be issued a uniform at the mandatory Parent/Guardian Orientation prior to the start of the program. The uniform includes t-shirts, gym shorts, and a hat. In addition, cadets will be provided with a gym bag and a water bottle.

Q: How will the admission decisions be made?
A: All application submissions are carefully reviewed by the MCPSYA Coordinators once the application period closes. The essay section is an opportunity for each candidate to put their best foot forward and make their application stand out. We recommend that you (the cadet) take your time completing this section and carefully answer each question. Incomplete applications will NOT be considered.

Q: How quickly can we expect a response regarding the decision of my son/daughter’s application?
A: Notification regarding acceptances will be sent via EMAIL within 2-3 weeks of when the application period CLOSES. At that time, we will ask for a response confirming that your son/daughter will be attending the program.
